Stand Firm: The Miracle Worker Is On Your Side
As we journey through 2024, our focus has been anchored in the words from 1 Corinthians 16:13-14: “Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong. And do everything in love.” This call to "Stand Firm" is more than just a mindset; it’s a foundation for living in a world that often pressures us to compromise our faith and values. Standing firm means being grounded in God’s strength and love, refusing to conform to worldly standards, and continually relying on Jesus, the Miracle Worker, to empower us.
The Bible shows countless examples of how God miraculously intervened in people’s lives. Jesus’ ministry was filled with miracles, healing the sick, casting out demons, raising the dead, and turning impossibilities into possibilities. These miracles were not mere historical events; they reveal the heart of a God who continues to act miraculously in the lives of those who trust Him. Hebrews 13:8 assures us, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” This means that the God who performed wonders for generations past is still working in powerful ways today.
In the story of Jesus turning water into wine at a wedding in Cana (John 2:1-12), we see His nature as the Miracle Worker revealed for the first time. This moment was about more than just saving a celebration—it demonstrated His power and willingness to meet our needs in unexpected ways. From this story, we can draw three important lessons about inviting Jesus into every area of our lives and trusting Him to work miracles.
1) Invite Jesus to Every Part of Your Life
In John 2:2, we read, “Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the celebration.” This invitation was crucial; without Jesus being present, there would have been no miracle. Similarly, in our own lives, we often experience less of God’s miraculous power because we don’t intentionally invite Him into every area. We rely on our talents, resources, and control, sometimes forgetting to bring Jesus to “the party.”
It’s easy to get comfortable or complacent in our relationship with Jesus, gradually relying more on ourselves than on Him. Yet, when we invite Jesus into our marriages, careers, friendships, and struggles, we create room for His power to transform these areas. Miracles often happen when Jesus is present, whether or not we fully see or understand them. David Jeremiah once said, “Miracles happen when we allow God to do His great work through us. When we let Him, mountains move, lives change, and the impossible becomes possible.”
Reflect on your own life—where might you need to invite Jesus back in? Without Him, we miss out on the miraculous, but with Him at the center, we can stand firm, trusting He is by our side.
2) Obedience Leads to Overflow
In the Cana story, Jesus’ mother, Mary, tells the servants, “Do whatever he tells you” (John 2:5). This moment of obedience led to an abundance of fine wine, saving the family from embarrassment. Mary’s instructions reveal a critical principle: when we follow Jesus’ commands, blessings overflow, and God’s best becomes available.
Obedience requires humility and trust, especially when we face challenges. It may not always make sense or feel convenient, but choosing to follow Jesus’ guidance can turn potential setbacks into moments of provision and praise. When we’re obedient, God doesn’t just give us enough—He often exceeds our needs with His very best.
Think of the areas in your life where you’re facing challenges. Could obedience to God’s voice lead you into an overflow of His blessings? Charles Stanley said, “Obedience is the channel through which God’s blessings flow.” Let’s remember that God’s best comes when we live in obedience to Him.
3) The Profound Requires the Practical
In many of Jesus’ miracles, He included people in practical ways. At Cana, Jesus told the servants to fill jars with water, and only after they acted did the water turn into wine. Throughout His ministry, we see Jesus inviting people to contribute something practical: a young boy’s lunch fed thousands, Peter stepped out of the boat before he walked on water, and the woman with the issue of blood pressed through the crowd to touch Jesus.
These examples reveal a pattern: Jesus doesn’t need our help to perform miracles, yet He invites us to be part of them. Our practical steps of faith open the door for the divine to break through in our lives. This doesn’t mean that miracles are dependent on us, but that God loves to include us in His work.
If you’re praying for a miracle, ask yourself what practical steps God might be calling you
to take. Whether it’s an act of generosity, a step of faith, or a change in priorities, your “yes” can set the stage for God to move powerfully in your situation.
Stand Firm in the Miracle Worker’s Power
As we face challenges in life, standing firm doesn’t mean relying on our own strength. It means trusting in the God who has power beyond our understanding. The Miracle Worker is on our side, ready to do the impossible when we invite Him, obey Him, and partner with Him.
Miracles may look different for each of us, but they are possible because Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Let’s make Him the foundation of everything we do, holding onto faith that God’s best is yet to come. Whatever you’re facing today, know that Jesus, the Miracle Worker, is on your side.
