Hide and Seek 5 Day Devotional: Moving past pain and unforgiveness.

March 9, 2026

Day 1: Getting Back Up

Devotional

Life has a way of knocking us down. Whether it's betrayal from a friend, disappointment in ourselves, or circumstances beyond our control, we all face moments when we feel defeated. In these moments, it's easy to stay down, to accept defeat as final. But God sees something different in your story. He sees potential where you see failure, hope where you see despair, and victory where you see defeat. The referee isn't counting you out - He's counting you back in. Every setback is a setup for a comeback when you're walking with God. Your current situation doesn't define your final destination. What matters isn't how hard you've been hit, but whether you're willing to get back up and keep fighting.

Bible Verse

'Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!' - 2 Corinthians 5:17

Reflection Question

What situation in your life feels like a knockout punch, and how might God be calling you to get back up?

Quote

I'm not going to stop counting until you get up and praise me. You may feel defeated. You may feel like you've taken the hit. You may feel that you've hit the canvas, but the referee will not stop counting until you get up.

Prayer

Lord, when I feel defeated and want to stay down, remind me that You're not done with my story. Give me the strength to rise again and trust in Your plan for my life.

Day 2: The Struggle with Grace

Devotional

We all have a Jonah moment - a time when we struggle with God's grace being extended to someone who has hurt us deeply. It feels unfair when those who have caused pain receive mercy instead of punishment. Our human sense of justice cries out for retribution, for people to get what they deserve. But God's ways are higher than our ways. His grace isn't based on what people deserve; it's based on His love and mercy. When we witness God's forgiveness toward others, especially those who have wronged us, it challenges our understanding of fairness. Yet this same grace that we question when given to others is the very grace that has saved us. The mercy we struggle to accept for our enemies is the same mercy that covers our own sins.

Bible Verse

'But to Jonah this seemed very wrong, and he became angry.' - Jonah 4:1

Reflection Question

Who in your life has received grace that you struggle to accept, and how does this reflect your own need for God's mercy?

Quote

Why is it that they've done so much wrong, so much wrong, they caused so much hurt, but you're willing to forgive them? How is that fair?

Prayer

God, help me to see others through Your eyes of mercy. When I struggle with Your grace toward those who have hurt me, remind me of the grace You've shown me.

Day 3: You Are Forgiven

Devotional

There's a voice that whispers in the dark moments of your life, reminding you of every mistake, every failure, every moment you fell short. It tells you that you're too far gone, that what you've done is unforgivable. But today, hear a different voice - the voice of your Heavenly Father saying, 'You are forgiven.' No matter what you've done, where you've been, or how far you've fallen, God's forgiveness covers it all. The sacrifice of Jesus was sufficient for every sin you could ever commit. Your past doesn't disqualify you from God's love; it qualifies you for His grace. When you accept Jesus as Lord of your life, you're not just forgiven - you're made new. The old you with all its shame and guilt is gone, replaced by the righteousness of God.

Bible Verse

'Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.' - Acts 2:38-39

Reflection Question

What past mistake or sin do you need to fully accept God's forgiveness for today?

Quote

You are forgiven. The times where you felt like you were in a dark place and you did those things where you said those words, when you hurt those people, you are forgiven.

Prayer

Father, thank You for Your complete forgiveness through Jesus. Help me to accept and walk in the freedom that comes from knowing I am truly forgiven and made new.

Day 4: The Freedom to Forgive

Devotional

Forgiveness isn't just something we receive; it's something we're called to give. When someone hurts us, holding onto that pain feels like power, like we're somehow punishing them by staying angry. But unforgiveness is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to get sick. It doesn't hurt them - it destroys us from the inside out. God calls us to forgive not because the other person deserves it, but because we deserve to be free. Forgiveness doesn't mean allowing toxic people back into your life without boundaries. It means releasing the grip that their actions have on your heart. When you forgive, you're not saying what they did was okay - you're saying you refuse to let their actions continue to control your life. Justice belongs to God, but freedom belongs to you when you choose to forgive.

Bible Verse

'Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.' - Ephesians 4:32

Reflection Question

Who do you need to forgive today, not for their sake, but for your own freedom?

Quote

Forgiveness is yours to give.

Prayer

Lord, give me the strength to forgive those who have hurt me. Help me to release the burden of resentment and walk in the freedom that forgiveness brings.

Day 5: Never Too Late

Devotional

Maybe you feel like you've missed your chance. Perhaps you think you've made too many mistakes, hurt too many people, or strayed too far from God's plan. The enemy wants you to believe it's too late for redemption, too late for a fresh start, too late for God to use you. But God's grace operates outside the boundaries of time and human limitation. It's never too late to step into who God created you to be. You are the righteousness of God, not because of what you've done, but because of what Christ has done for you. God hasn't called you to sit in shame or regret, but to step up and step out into the purpose He has for your life. Your past mistakes don't disqualify you - they become part of your testimony. Today is a new day, and with God, it's never too late to begin again.

Bible Verse

'But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.' - 1 Peter 2:9

Reflection Question

What dream or calling have you given up on that God might be asking you to pursue again?

Quote

I need you to understand that it's never too late. It's never too late.

Prayer

God, thank You that it's never too late with You. Help me to step out of shame and into the identity and purpose You have for me.
