There's something powerful about hearing what God has done in someone's life. When we share our testimonies, we're not just telling stories - we're declaring God's faithfulness and opening doors for others to experience His transformative power. On Sunday, we witnessed incredible testimonies from young people who encountered God in profound ways at Young Lions leadership camp.
Young Lions isn't just a fun camp experience - it's a leadership boot camp specifically designed to bring out leadership qualities in young people. The goal isn't to create pastors and preachers, but to develop leaders who can impact their schools, communities, and wherever God places them.
For four years, our youth ministry has been sending young people to this transformative experience, and we're seeing incredible fruit as those who started in year one are now emerging as confident year three leaders.
Our first-year cohort - Kristen, Violet, Jackson, and Toby - shared how they arrived at Young Lions not knowing who would be in their groups or who their coaches would be. Everything was new and uncertain, yet God met them in that place of vulnerability.
One young person shared how difficult it was to read their testimony in front of others, describing it as "such a vulnerable moment." Another struggled with confidence when talking to new people and praying for others. But in these challenging moments, God showed up.
The worship nights left a lasting impact on these young people. One described feeling "so much power" and "so much of God's spirit that filled the room." Another was moved by a moment when everyone sat quietly in God's presence, hearing crying all around as people encountered the Lord.
Perhaps most significantly, they experienced "prophecy chair" - a time when their coaching groups would sit in a circle around one person and ask God for words, visions, or images to share. These young people discovered they could hear from God and speak His words over others' lives.
Our year three cohort - Nathan, Sophie, Bethany, Faye, and Dan - had progressed to creating personal vision statements. These weren't just nice phrases, but God-given directions for their lives:
These young people faced more complex challenges. One shared about discovering something from their past that they had "crushed as small as it could possibly be and shoved down" in their heart rather than giving it to God. Through prophecy chair, they were able to encounter this issue and finally surrender it completely.
Another struggled with severe anxiety about speaking in front of people. After receiving the same prophetic word from multiple people - the same word their leader had given them earlier - they realized God was calling them to step out of their comfort zone and overcome fear.
Acts 2 reminds us that God's promise isn't limited to a select few. Peter declared: "In the last days, I will pour out my spirit upon all people. Your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions. Your old men will dream dreams."
This promise extends to everyone who calls on the name of the Lord. The same Holy Spirit who moved powerfully in these young people's lives is available to each of us.
The Bible says to "write the vision down." These young people didn't just experience God - they articulated what He was calling them to do. We should all have vision statements that capture what God is saying to us about our purpose and direction.
Every testimony shared involved stepping beyond comfort zones. Whether it was sharing vulnerably with strangers, leading activities covered in mud, or speaking prophetic words over others, growth happened when these young people pushed past their fears.
One leader asked a powerful question: "If you removed the fear of failing, would you live your life differently?" This question transformed how one young person approached not just the weekend, but their entire life.
Multiple young people mentioned 'prophecy chair' as a highlight where they felt God move most powerfully. This wasn't about being the center of attention, but about being used by God to speak into others' lives.
One young person shared how Bible verses would come to mind that they didn't even know, but when they looked them up and shared them, they related perfectly to the person they were praying for. This is the Holy Spirit at work through ordinary young people.
This week, challenge yourself to step out of your comfort zone in your relationship with God. Write down a vision statement for your life - what is God calling you to do? Don't worry about having all the details figured out; just write what you sense He's saying to you right now.
Also, look for opportunities to encourage others and speak God's truth into their lives. You don't need to be at a special camp or conference - God can use you right where you are.
Ask yourself these questions:
Remember, the same Holy Spirit who transformed these young people's lives is available to transform yours. The oil of the Holy Spirit is still falling and never runs out. God wants to use you just as powerfully as He's using these young leaders.
